My dear friend Emma from The Hippie Memoirs, recently celebrated her 21st first birthday. I really wanted to create something handmade for her that would be really special. I used my knowledge of metal smithing to create her this simple necklace. I hand cut brass triangles and a copper heart and hand stamped the words “All you need is” onto the brass triangles. These famous words sung by The Beatles are near and dear to Emma’s heart, so I thought there wasn’t a better phrase I could use. I just love the photographs she took! You should check them out right here!
I have really been toying around with the idea of opening an Etsy shop. I love to work with small metals and I would love to take it to the next level and step it up from just a hobby. But, part of me worries that the market is too over saturated with handmade jewelry. I feel that while my jewelry is a bit unique because of the manipulation, textures, and techniques used, it might slip between the cracks of more successful, veteran shops. I am also interested in selling my upcycled jewelry and accessories. I’ve recently become obsessed with reusing leather skirts. Check it out HERE and HERE!
Maybe I should think about testing the market at craft fairs. What do you think? Do you own an Etsy Shop? Or are you a craft fair guru? I would love to hear your advice and insight on craft fair scene, selling on consignment, and or owning an Etsy shop. -Ruth-

I say etsy! and just market it well 🙂 you only have to pay when you sell things where as most craft fairs have a entry fee and you might not break even. i think etsy is a safe place to try things!

I use to own an Etsy shop but I found it too time consuming for me, there is so much on there I found it was hard to get noticed. I think the people who’ve done the best as jewelry makers often do both etsy and craft fair. But to be honest I think your work is so beautiful it would be hard not to notice it, you are a truly inspiring. Best of luck.
Cheers.

You are so sweet!! I think you should definitely open an Etsy shop! God has given you such amazing talents and I know that people would love your jewelry! Also, crafting and making jewelry is something that makes you happy and if you are able to make a profit off of it that’s a bonus 🙂
