Check out my collaboration with FunkiFabrics!
Have you heard of sublimation?
Sublimation is a really cool process that is taking the apparel and fabric industry by storm! This process allows for the creation of really unique prints.
Basically, what happens is a really cool design is created and it then printed onto sublimation paper using special inks. Then, the paper is placed upside down on top of polyester fabric and pressed with a tremendous amount of heat. What happens is the ink is impregnated into the polyester fibers.
But, why is this so cool?
Because any design or color you can think of is possible!!! And the colors will never fade!!! Traditional fabric printing involves color separations and requires the prints to be layered and aligned. But, not with sublimation! Trust me, it’s really cool!
Did you know that this is what I do for my day job? That’s right, I design custom sublimated athletic uniforms! Needless to say, when FunkiFabrics contacted me and asked if I would review their fabric, I was ecstatic! I mean, this is my jam!
I was able to order 10 swatches and then decide what fabrics I wanted to order. I was allowed 3 meters and I chose the following; cotton elastane, tie dye azzurra, and this really cool galaxy space print.
I am really impressed with the quality of the fabric I received. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a nicer cotton elastane fabric! As for the sublimated prints, ah-mazing! The colors are super vibrant and the printing was impeccable. The lycra is a very nice weight too! I can see this fabric making some sweet swimwear! Check out these creations using FunkiFabrics to make swimwear.
So, what did I make?
I made Pants! I used the cotton elastane and the tie dye azzurra fabric to make these two pair of pants. I am really happy with how they turned out! I used a couple of patterns I’ve been playing around with. I’m thinking of creating a line of PDF patterns focusing on athletic apparel and lounge wear. What do you think? Would you do yoga in these pants?
Did I mention that Isn’t that Sew was chosen as one of FunkiFabrics top 100 sewing blogs in the world! Go check it out to find out where I ranked and see some truly incredible sewing bloggers!
Disclosure: The fabric for this project was given to me c/o FunkiFabrics. I was not compensated in any way other than the 3 meters of fabric I received to review this product. All opinions expressed are my own.
